Today North Central Washington Audubon Society publicly announced a generous $50,000 pledge to Okanogan Land Trust’s For the Fen! campaign.
Their commitment helped carry the campaign past the halfway mark earlier this spring, and it represents a powerful vote of confidence in the effort to protect Bonaparte Meadows.
Bonaparte Meadows is Okanogan County’s largest peat wetland, a rare landscape of fen, meadow, creek, forest edge, and surrounding uplands. Together, these connected habitats support birds, amphibians, mammals, native plants, insects, and the seasonal movement of water through the landscape.
For bird conservation, places like Bonaparte Meadows matter because habitat does not exist in pieces. Birds depend on connected landscapes for nesting, migration, feeding, shelter, and seasonal movement. Wetlands, meadows, waterways, shrublands, and uplands all play a role in supporting the larger web of life.
NCW Audubon’s pledge recognizes that Bonaparte Meadows is part of that larger conservation story.
Their support also comes at an important moment. Okanogan Land Trust is working to raise the private funds needed to acquire, protect, and begin restoring the 745-acre Bonaparte Meadows property, including 260 acres of peat fen. The campaign has now raised $805,347 toward its $1.5 million private fundraising goal, with a July 31 deadline ahead.
We’re deeply grateful to North Central Washington Audubon Society for their leadership, generosity, and partnership in helping build momentum for this community conservation effort.

Their pledge is more than a financial contribution. It is a statement of care for birds, wetlands, connected habitat, and the future of Bonaparte Meadows.
