Position Description:
The Communications and Development Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director to steward and engage with donors, manage the donor database, coordinate OLT’s communications, outreach, and social media presence, and provide some administrative support for our small staff. Successful applicants will have outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, as well as organizational and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about engaging with and communicating to a diverse base of landowners and supporters to accomplish OLT’s mission of “connecting land and community,” and will appreciate a job in which every day is different. Familiarity with and appreciation for rural lifestyles and North-Central Washington a plus.

With duties as described above, this is a part-time position, with hours negotiable between 50 and 75% FTE. However, the position may be full time for a candidate with basic financial record-keeping skills (including familiarity with Quickbooks), or ability to learn and willingness to make this part of their responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities
.
Communications Operations – 45%
- In coordination with the Executive Director, ensure the continuing development and sharing of OLT’s brand and messaging within our community and beyond, execute the development of communications materials intended for public consumption, and execute the development of electronic communications, including OLT’s website and social media. Work with board and staff members to compile and develop content for and produce OLT’s quarterly newsletter.
- Create and disseminate written fundraising appeals, project update mailings, event invitations, marketing materials, and donor stewardship contacts throughout the year.
- Develop and create content that will increase audience engagement on OLT’s social media channels and expand the informational and donor-engagement functions of its website.
- Prepare project and easement marketing and supporting materials for use by staff, board, volunteers, and other faces of the organization. Depending on interest, speak publicly on behalf of the organization at events, local radio, etc.
- Manage relationships with news outlets, business and partner organizations, and the general public to advertise and promote events, initiatives, and opportunities.
- Expand OLT’s visibility to and engagement with diverse segments of our community, including groups not historically reached or served by our messages and programming.

Development and Outreach – 45%
- Actively steward and care for donors and assist in the development of the annual fundraising plan, special donor “touches” throughout the year, facilitate and develop donor appreciation events and communications, and ensure that those who support OLT feel connected at all times.
- Develop and promote public events on OLT- and partner-owned or conserved properties as appropriate to advance strategic community conservation and donor cultivation goals.
- Participate in OLT and community events, fairs, and other outreach opportunities to promote the mission and work of OLT.
- Help develop strategies and initiatives to increase familiarity with and support for OLT’s work among broader and more diverse segments of the local community.
- Create and manage a volunteer database and regular communications and events planned in conjunction with the ED and Conservation Coordinator.

Administrative Duties – 10%
- Receive, process, and enter donations through the Little Green Light donor database system and send out timely gift acknowledgements.
- Assist with accounting activities in Quickbooks in conjunction with the ED.
- Share responsibility for general office scheduling, maintenance activities, and supply inventory and restocking as needed.
- Assist the ED and Conservation Coordinator with administrative duties, federal and state agency reporting requirements, financial accounting, and other tasks as needed.

Other Potential Areas of Responsibility
Depending on candidate skills and interest as well as organizational capacity, the position may also be defined to include:
- Coordination and execution of educational and volunteer events: involves working with partners to identify community needs, develop programming, and lead events. Work with local schools and universities to provide outdoor classrooms and learning opportunities.
- Work with the Conservation Coordinator on the outreach to landowners, agricultural producers, and other potential conservation partners in support of OLT’s conservation and stewardship programs.
- Additional bookkeeping responsibilities and/or participation in operations and financial and management and oversight.

Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, in particular the ability to craft clear and compelling message in a variety of media to inform and appeal to different audiences, including donors, organizational partners, funders, landowners, and diverse groups within the community. Strong visual and/or audio-visual communication skills a big plus.
- Up-to-date skills in word processing, database management, website maintenance, and social media. Website design experience a plus.
- Fundraising experience or interest in building skills in donor management, fundraising strategy and (training and professional development opportunities will be provided by OLT).
- Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively, while collaborating closely within a small and closely- integrated team.
- Familiarity with Syilx and/or Spanish languages a plus.
- Undergraduate degree in a related field. 2-3 years’ experience with land trusts, conservation work, or a communications or fundraising role a plus.

Working Conditions:
OLT’s staff work a hybrid schedule consisting of two days per week in our Okanogan office and remote work on other days. When travel is necessary, staff use their own vehicles (mileage is reimbursed).
